Stage Rental

COVID-19 UPDATE

As of November 16th, 2020 Gavin Newsom has ordered a halt to the states reopening plans. As a result, we are pausing our rental program. The health of our community is our top priority. We deeply miss hosting you all within our building and we thank those of you who have contributed to keeping the arts thriving during this Pandemic. Dragon has made many strides in producing digital content and if you are looking for support in taking your event online, please do not hesitate to reach out to either Co-Artistic Director, Max or Alika, email them.

Our stage is 20’ x 20’ with a 6” rise from ground level. It’s a black box or cabaret style theatre with 18’ ceilings, a small private mezzanine level (we call it the VIP box), and a backstage area. Please be aware that rental of the Dragon Stage is “as is” which means there might be a set on the stage that is NOT alterable in any way. You may use whatever lights are currently in the air but can NOT re-hang or re-focus them without express written permission.

Dragon Theatre Stage

The stage has two different rental options, Public and Non-Public. This allows for rehearsals, classes, meetings, and presentations to rent at a slightly less expensive rate as their needs tend to be less than a full production. It can also cover set-up and clean-up time before and after your performance event.

All Stage Rentals include:

  • Use of lights and sound equipment (set up depends on whatever show is currently in production by Dragon).
  • Access to projector and 10′ screen.
  • Macintosh Mini computers running QLab (sound) and ETC Nomad lighting software.
  • Access to tables, chairs, and music stands.
  • Use of a Facility Rep/Technician (MANDATORY).

Should my rental be public or non-public?

The Dragon is a shared space and sometimes renters want to limit the amount of disturbances that comes from having others in the building during the time of their event.

Here are some questions to help you decide what kind of rental you might need:

  • Is sound bleed or privacy a concern to you? There may be other renters/classes/office workers in the building during a non-public rental
  •  Would you like to put on a public event and sell tickets to attendees?
  • Are you hosting an event that needs additional space to serve food and/or drink?

If you answered yes to any of the above questions, you likely want to opt for the public rental. If you do not plan on selling tickets to your event, and you are not concerned about having other rentals in our other rooms at the same time as your event, then a non-public rental is likely the best option for you!

Public Rental

Full Building Rental – $250 per hour (2 hour minimum)*

Public rentals are any rental that expects to sell tickets to the public. Public rentals guarantee that the entire building will be free of other renters and includes use of our sound, lighting, and projection equipment. All public rentals are required to use a house technician who will act as your on site personnel and are trained to run lights and sound from the booth for you.

In addition to the stage public renters also will have access to:

  • Use of the Studio (Studio is a 21’7” x 19’7” trapezoidal space with an entrance to backstage through one door and to the lobby through the other).
  • Use of the lobby, which includes space for your event’s box office and concessions areas.
  • ADA Compliant stage/backstage, and public restrooms.
  • Private backstage bathroom.
  • 65 seat capacity, flexible seating area.
  • VIP box for an additional 4-5 seats.
  • 5 marble topped cabaret tables for the front row.
  • Access to tables, chairs and music and mic stands.
  • Access to projector and 150” screen (measured diagonally).
  •  A mid-stage black velvet traveling curtain that can be drawn to cover up any set that might be on the stage and provide a dark background for projections.
  • A House Technician to run lights, sound, and projection.

Non-Public Stage Rental

Stage Only – $200 per hour (2 hour minimum)*

Non-Public rentals are specifically designed for classes, parties, presentations, and rehearsals. House and work lights are available for these rentals and you are required to use a house technician who will act as your on site personnel and are trained to run lights and sound from the booth for you. The sound and lights must be incredibly minimal but can include a Powerpoint type slideshow presentation. Please note that you are NOT guaranteed exclusive use of the building so there might be other classes or events happening in the building at this time.

Non-Public rentals include:

  • Access to tables, chairs and music stands.
  • ADA Compliant stage and public restrooms.
  • 65 seat capacity, flexible seating area.
  • A mid-stage black velvet traveling curtain that can be drawn to cover up any set that might be on the stage and provide a dark background for projections.
