Who Are We?

Dragon Productions Theatre Company is a 501c3 nonprofit live theatre company founded by Executive Artistic Director, Meredith Hagedorn in 1999. Located in downtown Redwood City since 2013, Dragon has been building a reputation for low-cost, high-quality, live theatre entertainment. The Dragon Theatre houses a 65-seat intimate theatre area, a classroom, and a studio space.

Dragon’s mission is to produce professional theatre that is uncommon, intimate, and accessible to its audiences, artists, and community. The board of directors, led by Dale Albright, recently completed a year-long survey of the board, staff, artists, designers, a various community members to draft a new five- year strategic plan. The process clarified some unconscious choices that we’ve made in the past few years with our move from Palo Alto to Redwood City. Our new goal is to tackle the following:

Problem Statement

The Bay Area is home to many theatre artists who are denied access to a breadth and depth of opportunities for expression and growth. Additionally, our diverse residents are in need of both community and unique experiences. At the intersection of these needs is the opportunity to build a shared exploration of the human experience through the particular power of theatre.

 Organizational Strategies

  • Actively expanding our artistic base
  • Inviting the community to engage with Dragon as a cultural hub
  • Employing various feedback mechanisms to inform the continuing conversation between artists and the community
  • Mentoring
  • Providing a platform for collaboration and mutual support
  •
Anticipated Changes
  • More artists express that their experience at Dragon results in clarity of vision, fulfillment of expression and increased opportunities
  • More audiences more often express a highlighted understanding of the human condition
  • Audiences and artists more often recommend Dragon as a place for community gathering and unique, effective storytelling
  • More facets of the community utilize Dragon as a hub

Values: Empathy, Boldness, Accessibility

Meta Change: A more compassionate community enlightened by valued, well rounded artists
