Victoria Evans Erville – “A Mother’s Heart”
Ms. Evans Erville is a Dramatist Guild member in her second season as a pool writer with Playground. Last season two of her plays, ‘Catch’ and ‘The Verona Matchmakers,’ were selected for the Monday Night Reading Series.’ This current 2020-2021 season her plays ‘Teen Prophet’ and ‘Si Se Maybe’ have been selected for the Monday Night Reading Series.
Her full-length play ‘The Lies That Bind’ was a semi-finalist in the Bay Area Playwrights Festival 2019 and received a staged reading with 3Girls Theatre in 2020.
In 2019 her short play ‘A Mother’s Heart’ received a staged reading at the Women’s Theatre Festival of N.C. and ‘The Test’ was awarded Second Place at Piano Fight’s ShortLived VIII Festival -week 8.
Her full-length play ‘The Music of Mothers’ will receive a reading in 2021 with 3Girls Theatre, where Ms. Evans Erville was a 2019-2020 Brady Fellow.
John Mabey – “The Legend of Snails”
John Mabey is a writer and storyteller whose plays have been published and produced across the United States and Europe. John grew-up in the desert but has called New York, London and Amsterdam home for the past 10 years, now living in Atlanta and always writing with a cactus on their desk. Their work as a playwright is connected to their career in Psychology and certification as a Mental Health Counselor, as they infuse everything they’ve learned about emotion and relationships into their plays. This year, John’s work is included in ‘Smith & Kraus Best 10-Minute Plays’ and ‘Smith & Kraus Best Women’s Monologues.’ They are also a published author on the topics of sexual identity and spirituality in academic books (Routledge: SEXUAL ORIENTATION DISCRIMINATION, ADVANCES IN FEMINIST ECONOMICS) and journals (The Professional Counselor: COUNSELING OLDER ADULTS IN LGBT COMMUNITIES). They also enjoy teaching and performing improvised comedy and true storytelling around the world.
